Tips for best results

  • Use a square image (1:1)
  • High resolution is better (512×512 or larger)
  • A logo or icon with a clear shape works best
  • PNG or SVG format recommended

Why one image becomes so many files

A single favicon.ico hasn't been enough for years — browsers, iOS home screen icons, Android adaptive icons, Windows tiles, and macOS all expect their own specific sizes and sometimes their own file format. This tool renders your image once at high resolution, then resizes it down to every size each platform actually requests, packaging the classic sizes (16×16, 32×32, 48×48) into one multi-resolution favicon.ico and everything else as separate PNGs.

The site.webmanifest ties it together

The generated ZIP includes a site.webmanifest file that references the PWA icon sizes directly — this is what lets a site be "added to home screen" with a proper icon on Android instead of falling back to a screenshot or a generic globe icon.

Padding and shape affect small sizes the most

At 16×16 pixels, a logo with fine detail or text usually reads as a blur — the shape and padding controls exist mainly to solve that, since a simple silhouette with a bit of breathing room around it tends to stay recognizable at the smallest browser tab size where every other favicon setting stops mattering.
