EXIF, IPTC, XMP, and GPS — what's the difference?

The viewer sorts what it finds into separate tabs because cameras, phones, and editing software write metadata in different standards. EXIF usually holds camera settings — make, model, shutter speed, ISO, focal length; IPTC and XMP are where editing tools like Lightroom or Photoshop write captions, keywords, and copyright fields; GPS is its own tab with a direct link to view the coordinates on a map, when a photo has embedded location data.

Why this matters before you post

A photo taken on a phone with location services on can carry exact GPS coordinates in its EXIF data — that's invisible in a normal preview but still present in the file you upload. Checking the GPS tab before sharing a photo publicly is the simplest way to confirm what's actually embedded.

Removing it doesn't touch the pixels

Metadata Remover strips the EXIF/IPTC/XMP/GPS blocks and re-saves the image — visual quality is untouched, only the embedded tag data is dropped. Free accounts can process images up to 100 MB; Pro raises that to 1 GB, which mainly matters for large, uncompressed camera originals.
