Metadata Checklist
Most of this metadata is submitted through your distributor rather than Spotify directly, which is exactly why it's easy to lose track of — a mistake here isn't caught by re-checking the Spotify app, since the app just displays whatever the distributor sent. Track language metadata specifically feeds Spotify's own recommendation and search systems, so setting it correctly matters for reaching listeners searching in that language, not just for accuracy's sake.
- •ISRC and UPC codes are what actually route royalties and identify the release across every platform it lands on — a missing or mismatched code doesn't block the release, it just quietly misroutes payment later.
- •The explicit flag affects whether the track gets filtered out of "clean" playlists and radio-style stations entirely — worth setting deliberately rather than accepting whatever default a distributor's upload form applies.
