Why captions are on this list at all
Burned-in captions matter more on TikTok than on most platforms — a large share of the app is watched with sound off in public, on transit, or just out of habit, so a video that only makes sense with audio quietly loses that entire slice of its potential audience.
The rest of the list, briefly
- •3–5 hashtags — enough to categorize the video for discovery without crowding out the caption's actual hook.
- •A trending or relevant sound ties the video into that sound's own discovery feed, separate from hashtags or the caption entirely.
- •Duet/Stitch settings are worth a deliberate choice rather than the default — leaving them open invites reuse of the clip, while turning them off protects a video meant to stand on its own.
