A headline that states what you actually do, rather than just repeating your job title, matters because LinkedIn surfaces the headline everywhere a profile appears — in search results, comments, and connection requests — well before anyone opens the full profile to read the About section. The banner-overlap check exists for the same reason as the Company Page checklist's cover image item: LinkedIn's profile layout places the profile photo directly over the bottom-left corner of the banner, so a banner designed without that in mind can lose its most important detail there.

  • The photo holds up best when the face fills roughly 60% of the frame — a smaller, distant photo reads as an afterthought at the sizes a profile picture actually displays at.
  • The About section's opening line is worth rewriting away from "I am a..." specifically, since that phrasing tells a reader nothing they couldn't already guess from the headline above it.
  • Featured and "Open to" are easy to forget precisely because they're optional — an empty Featured section is a missed chance to show actual work rather than just describe it, and a stale "Open to" badge sends a signal you may not intend anymore.
