Pinterest reads descriptions differently than a caption
Pinterest's search treats a Pin description as indexable text closer to a search engine snippet than a social caption — it's used to match Pins to search queries and related boards. Writing it as natural sentences that repeat a few relevant keywords tends to perform better for discovery than packing in unrelated hashtags, which carry comparatively little weight in Pinterest's own search ranking.
Front-load what matters
Only the first couple of lines show in Pinterest's grid view before a description is truncated, so put the most useful, specific detail — what the Pin actually shows or solves — at the very start rather than saving it for later in the 500-character budget.
Write it like a caption, not a keyword list
- •Repeat the primary keyword once or twice naturally, rather than stacking synonyms back to back.
- •A short call-to-action at the end ("Save this for later," "Tap for the full recipe") gives a real reason to engage beyond the keywords doing their job silently.
